Nordec Appointed as Frame Contractor in Project Snäckan 8

Nordec Oy, wholly owned by Nordec Group Corporation, and Skanska Sverige AB have signed an agreement regarding the structural contract for the office building Snäckan 8 in Tegelbacken, in the city of Stockholm. This modern, future-proofed office building has a total rentable area of approximately 23,000 square meters. The developer is Skanska Fastigheter Stockholm AB.

The building aims to achieve the LEED Gold environmental certification level. One of the focus areas in the structure is to minimize the carbon footprint as much as possible. To achieve these goals, we employ design solutions and material choices that include using recycled steel for the beams of the intermediate floors and more climate-friendly hollow core slabs.

On the property, there was a building that has now been demolished to the ground floor to make way for a new ten-story high office building with a basement and nine floors above ground. The majority of the building comprises office spaces and some commercial premises. On the top floor, there will be technical spaces, a cafe and a terrace providing views of Riddarholmen and the Old Town. The "Tysta Mari" passage is one of the building's historical aspects that is refined in the project. Tysta Mari was originally a well-known café and restaurant in Stockholm, opened in 1834. It got its name "Tysta Mari" (literally: "Silent Mary") as a description of the founder Maria Christina Lindström's discreet way of doing business and serving. Later, she turned the nickname into the café's official name. This history is important for the building, and it's great that the building creates a new modern space while respecting old traditions.

Nordec's structural design is in progress while on-site work will commence in January 2024. The project is centrally located in Stockholm, and "just-in-time" deliveries are essential for a safe and smooth installation process. The constructions are prefabricated in an environment with multiple factories, both in Nordec's own units and with partners. Collaboration in the project is essential for scheduling and ensuring the project's timely completion.

"We are proud to be chosen as framework contractors for this project. We want to contribute our expertise by developing solutions that reduce harmful environmental impacts and promote sustainable development, so that we and our client Skanska can achieve the goals set for the project," says Minna Kuusela-Opas, Senior Vice President, Multi-Storey Business Unit.
