Nordec to deliver frame and envelope for new train depot in Hagalund, Stockholm
Nordec Group Oy press release 13.3.2025 at 08.45
Nordec has been awarded a contract by NCC to design and build the frame and envelope structures for a new train depot in Hagalund, Stockholm. The depot, developed by Jernhusen as the property owner and investor, aims to enhance Sweden’s rail infrastructure and strengthen the region’s public transportation network.
This project represents a key milestone in modernizing Sweden’s rail infrastructure, and Nordec’s contribution includes the construction of a steel frame, prefabricated concrete slabs, walls, stairs, sandwich panel wall elements, and roof sheeting. NCC, responsible for the overall construction, will build a state-of-the-art train hall with vehicle lifts. Throughout the process, the existing depot and track area will remain operational, minimizing disruption for commuters and rail operators.
In line with Nordec’s and NCC’s commitment to responsible construction practices, the project targets a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ certification. Special focus will be placed on material efficiency and minimizing environmental impact during construction.
The modernized depot will boost rail efficiency and capacity in Stockholm while supporting Sweden’s goals for sustainable transport and reduced road traffic. Jernhusen’s long-term vision for the site is to create a modern, efficient depot that meets future transportation needs.
Construction planning took place throughout autumn 2024, and assembly began just before Christmas. The project is set to be completed by December 2025.
