Nordec builds Swedish rail bridge for single-lift installation over an active main line

Rural landscape with a large railway bridge and road

Nordec Group Oy press release 21.05.2026 09.30

Nordec has been awarded a contract to manufacture and install a 52-metre steel truss railway bridge on the Western Main Line in Sweden. The bridge will be lifted into its final position in a single operation using a 750-tonne crawler crane during a night-time rail closure. The project forms part of the double track upgrade between Hallsberg and Degerön, delivered by main contractor Infrakraft on behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration.

The upgrade is intended to increase rail capacity and reduce constraints on freight movements along a heavily used corridor. The corridor supports long-distance and international goods transport, connecting industrial regions with ports and cross-border rail networks.

“The project places high demands on both the steel structures and project management. Nordec brings the necessary steel expertise and project capability for this type of work, with the organisational capacity to manage complex execution under tight operational constraints,” says Nijaz Mehmedovic, Project Manager at Infrakraft AB.

The all-steel structure will be assembled on site from sub-assemblies and loose components, then fully welded into a single unit prior to installation. The completed structure will then be lifted into its final position across the railway within the planned window. Executing a one-piece lift of a fully welded steel truss across an active main line requires detailed coordination of engineering, site planning and safety management.

Nordec’s scope covers installation engineering, manufacturing, surface treatment, on-site assembly and the final lift into position. Production started in autumn 2025, with site assembly and installation activities planned through 2026 and overall project completion expected in 2027.

“This project combines on-site assembly, full welding into a single unit and installation during a limited rail closure. Our role is to ensure that these phases are planned and executed as one coordinated sequence under strict time and site constraints,” says Aki Viiliäinen, Business Area Manager at Nordec.

Modern arena surrounded by nature on a sunny day

Nordec Group Oy press release 19.02.2026 09.30

Nordec has been awarded a contract to deliver the engineering, manufacturing and installation of the steel frame for the new Arctic Arena in Bodø, Norway. The delivery is part of a contract with Jaro AS, with Consto acting as the main contractor. Developed by FK Bodø Glimt, the approximately 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium is designed for football and events.

The Arctic Arena is one of the northernmost stadium projects in Europe and a significant investment for the Bodø region. The venue is intended for year-round activity and will serve sports and other events.

Nordec’s delivery covers the arena’s main load-bearing steel structures, including coordination of the steel frame solution and the primary steel structures supporting the roof, façade and spectator areas. Production is mainly carried out at Nordec factories, followed by coordinated assembly on-site in Bodø. Quality and safety management are integrated throughout all phases of the delivery. Environmental Product Declarations are available for the steel products supplied by Nordec, providing verified information on the environmental performance of the materials used.

“Nordec was a natural choice for us at Jaro AS when selecting the steel supplier for Arctic Arena. Their strong technical expertise and proven quality were decisive factors in our decision.

From the very start of the project, Nordec has demonstrated strong commitment and an impressive ability to collaborate. We are confident that this partnership will result in a final product of the highest standard, a project we can both be proud of.”

Ole Marius Thomassen, Managing Director, Jaro AS

The architectural concept features a diamond-inspired exterior with geometrically arranged roof and façade elements and flexible interior spaces designed to adapt to different types of events. The project is scheduled for completion in early autumn 2027.

Nordec steel frames in Park Central, Gothenburg, Sweden

Nordec’s 2024: Solid revenue and strong profitability driven by Sweden and industrial green transition projects

Nordec Group Oy press release 3.4.2025 at 09.00

Nordec Group delivered strong profitability and record 53,000 tons of steel structures in 2024, despite a demanding market. The relative share of international sales continued to grow, reinforcing Nordec’s position in key markets.

Key highlights:

  • Revenue of EUR 287.3 million, down from EUR 329.2 million in 2023.
  • Strong profitability, with EBITDA at EUR 21.9 million (7.6% margin).
  • Share of international sales increased to 87%, Sweden and Central and Eastern Europe grew strongly.
  • Continued expansion in the industrial green transition and data center related construction, while logistics sector investments remained subdued.
  • Safety performance improved clearly, with LTIF at a record-low level of 7.3.
  • Operational investments nearly doubled to EUR 7.4 million, focusing on factory modernization, efficiency, and working conditions.

Stability through broad market presence

The construction industry overall faced continued uncertainty in 2024, with investment decisions delayed and economic recovery progressing slowly. Nordec’s decades of experience, combined with a diverse geographic market reach and operations across multiple customer segments, helped sustain momentum in some of Nordec’s key segments such as industrial projects, particularly in green steel construction, as well as data center and multi-storey construction, where demand remained strong.

Nordec has been involved in several major projects throughout the year, including Stegra AB’s green steel plant in Sweden, Laakso Joint Hospital in Finland, Park Central and Snäckan office buildings in Sweden, a combined cycle power plant in Poland, Lofoten Bridges in Norway and multiple large-scale data center projects across the Nordics.

Strengthening foundations for the future

Nordec clearly increased investments into developing its operations in 2024: factory modernization investments continued according to plan, and the implementation of a new ERP system was kicked off.

Within sustainability, Nordec continued to offer low-carbon solutions to its customers, improved energy efficiency at the factories and released new Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for low-carbon products during the year. Nordec’s 2024 carbon footprint related to GHG Protocol scope 1+2 emissions represented a reduction of 49% from the reference year 2021.

Despite the high level of activity throughout the year, Nordec’s safety performance improved substantially and Nordec’s LTIF (Lost Time Incident Frequency) reached a record low level of 7,3 at the end of 2024, which is well below the average in the Finnish construction industry. Some of the investments completed in 2024 focused on substantially improving the working conditions of personnel, which reflects Nordec’s commitment to improving the health and safety of employees. The first module of Nordec’s leadership training program was also launched in 2024, aimed at developing the managers’ skills and capabilities.

“Despite market uncertainty, 2024 saw strong profitability, record steel deliveries, and targeted development investments. We strengthened our presence, especially in Sweden and Central and Eastern Europe, while supporting Europe’s green transition through major industrial construction projects. Our broad market presence, together with the development investments, positions us for continued success. Moving forward, we will continue improving efficiency, sustainability, and customer collaboration to ensure long-term growth, impact, and profitability.

— Kalle Luoto, CEO, Nordec Group
