Nordec responsible for structural frame for 11-storey hotel in Tromsø
Nordec Group Oy press release 18.9.2025 08.15 UTC+3
Nordec Group has been contracted by HENT to design, manufacture and install the structural frame for the Mack Øst hotel project in Tromsø, Norway. The development includes a new 11-storey hotel in the city centre, connected to the former Mack Brewery. The brewery building will be structurally reinforced to support the new structures and enable potential future expansion.
Nordec’s delivery covers the entire structural frame from design to installation. The scope includes structural steel components and composite columns together with concrete walls, slabs and stairs. Installation of prefabricated bathroom modules is also part of the delivery.
Work begins with modifications to the existing brewery and continues with the erection of the new hotel structures. The central city block location requires careful planning and coordination, with limited space for logistics and parallel works inside the existing building.
“This project combines modern construction with the challenges of integrating new structures into an existing building,” says Mårten West, Business Area Manager at Nordec. “We are pleased to support HENT in realising this development in one of the northernmost urban areas in Europe.”
The project continues Nordec’s involvement in construction projects in Northern Norway, where both urban constraints and local weather conditions set specific requirements.
Tourism in Tromsø has been growing steadily, creating demand for additional accommodation. The Mack Øst hotel, located in the city centre, will provide approximately 350 rooms while preserving part of the city’s brewing heritage.
The project will continue into 2026.
