Nordec awarded structural frame contract for new two-rink ice arena in Stockholm

Nordec Group Oy press release 11.06.2026 09.30
Nordec has been awarded a contract for the structural frame of a new ice arena facility with two ice rinks at Sätra idrottsplats in Stockholm. The project is being carried out for SSEA Svensk Samverkansentreprenadaktiebolag. The facility, developed by Hemsö, will include a match hall with seating for approximately 1,200 spectators and a second hall for training.
In addition to the two ice rinks, the facility includes supporting spaces such as changing rooms, technical areas and service spaces. The total area is approximately 10,400 m².
Nordec’s scope includes steel structures, hollow core slabs, precast concrete elements, load-bearing sheets and sandwich panels. The structure is based on a steel column and beam system with roof trusses, enabling open rink areas with spans of over 50 metres.
“The large-span roof structures for the ice halls place particular demands on planning and installation. Nordec’s experience from numerous similar arena projects, together with our design, production and installation expertise, ensures efficient execution throughout the construction phase”. says Minna Kuusela-Opas, Senior Vice President, Multi-storey at Nordec.
Design work started at the end of 2025. Installation of the structural frame started in May 2026, and the project is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
