Nordec to deliver steel structures for the redevelopment of Modo Hockey’s training centre in Sweden

Nordec Group Oy press release 16.12.2025 09.30 UTC+3

Modo Hockey’s training home and Örnsköldsvik’s sports infrastructure are being upgraded with a new Multisporthall and a modernised Modo Hall. Nordec will design, manufacture and install the steel frame for the new Multisporthall, while also renewing the roof structure of the adjacent Modo Hall training arena. The project is commissioned by the Municipality of Örnsköldsvik with REKAB as the main contractor.

The new Multisporthall will provide nearly 6,500 m² of indoor space, seating for around 400 spectators, and a height of 12 metres. Built next to Modo Hall, it will form a combined complex of over 160 metres in length for year-round training, matches and competitions. Together, the facilities will strengthen training and competition opportunities in the region and continue to serve as the training home of Modo Hockey, one of Sweden’s long-standing top-league clubs.

A central design element is the use of roof trusses spanning up to 45 metres, creating open indoor areas suitable for versatile sports use. Modo Hall will also be upgraded with a renewed roof structure, extending the lifespan of the existing arena and improving its functionality alongside the new Multisporthall.

“This project brings together a new multi-purpose arena and the modernisation of an existing facility in a single delivery,” says Minna Kuusela-Opas, Senior Vice President, Multi-Storey, Nordec. “By working with REKAB and the Municipality of Örnsköldsvik, we are strengthening sports infrastructure that will serve both the local community and Modo Hockey for many years ahead.”

Nordec’s scope covers structural design, production and installation. For the Multisporthall, this includes the complete steel frame, load-bearing roof sheets, hollow-core slabs and sandwich panels. For Modo Hall, Nordec will deliver new roof trusses and roof sheeting as part of the modernisation.

Production is carried out at Nordec’s units in Finland and Poland. Work on Modo Hall began earlier this autumn, followed by the Multisporthall. Completion is scheduled for spring 2026.
